Sedlec Ossuary
Challenge
The Sedlec Ossuary, a unique Roman Catholic chapel in the Czech Republic adorned with approximately 70,000 skeletons from the Black Death, presented an opportunity for a personal branding project during the 2020 lockdowns. The challenge was to create a visual identity that captured the essence of this historical and macabre site.
Solution
I aimed to preserve the Ossuary's gothic aesthetic while incorporating a stylised skull with an "S" as a central element, reflecting the site's artistic use of human remains. The design sought to balance the traditional gothic style, referencing the Ossuary's 14th-century origins, with a modern twist to appeal to contemporary audiences. This was achieved through bold contrasts between old and new elements, utilising clean space to showcase the design. Below are concept examples demonstrating the project's visual identity and its potential applications.
